And dishesdaily is my little corner of the internet!
I first fell in love with cooking back in 2016, when I was still working as a graphic designer in Seattle. A rainy Thursday night, a half‑finished sketchbook, and a bag of pantry staples sparked the idea for a food blog. I moved to Portland later that year, and the city’s farmers markets gave me the confidence to start sharing my experiments online. What began as a simple “post‑it‑note‑style” recipe page turned into the first version of dishesdaily in March 2018.
Fast‑forward to today, dishesdaily reaches about 45 000 readers each month (that’s up from 10 000 in 2020). I’ve published more than 250 recipes, ranging from quick weeknight dinners to holiday feasts. In 2021 I launched a weekly newsletter that now sits at 8 200 subscribers, and in 2022 I added a YouTube channel that has crossed the 12 000‑subscriber mark. The site now features a searchable recipe index, a seasonal ingredient guide, and a community “Ask Olivia” Q&A section that gets dozens of questions every week.
I live in a modest bungalow in the Alberta Arts District with my partner Alex and our two rescue cats, Basil and Juniper. When I’m not in the kitchen, you’ll find me strolling through the Portland Saturday Market, hiking the Columbia River Gorge, or sipping a perfectly pulled espresso at our favorite local roastery. My favorite things are fresh herbs, vintage cookbooks, and the sound of a crust cracking as a loaf cools on the counter.
A fun fact: I still keep the original sourdough starter I nurtured in 2018, and I’ve collected more than a dozen vintage kitchen scales from estate sales across the Pacific Northwest. I love cooking for friends, because the best meals are the ones shared around a table with people who make you laugh.
